More than 700 masters programmes in Sweden are eligible for fully financed scholarships from the Swedish Institute. Swedish Institute is seeking driven professionals who are driven to change the world. The Swedish Institute fellowship offers a special chance to advance academically and professionally while fostering enduring relationships with Swedish and other international professionals.

One academic award available for full time masters study in Sweden for one or two years is the Swedish Institute award for Global Professionals.

The Swedish Institute (SI) hopes to create a network of future global leaders through the scholarship programme who will advance their home nations’ development and contribute to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Applications for the scholarship are accepted once a year, for master’s programs starting in that fall semester.

WHAT THE SCHOLARSHIP COVERS

The fully financed scholarships for global professionals is a very competitive program that comprises of these;

Complete payment of tuition, Swedish Institute pays the cost directly to your Swedish university at the start of the semester.

A monthly stipend of SEK 12,000 to help with living expenses while you are studying. Insurance against disease and mishap.

A travel grant of SEK 15,000 (10,000 for academics from Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Armenia, and Azerbaijan). This is a one-time payment, the students who are already residents of Sweden are not eligible.

The scholarship doesn’t provide additional grants for family members, cover the application fee to university admissions, or allow changes to the study program. It is only able to support you through the awarded master’s programs. Allow extensions or changes to the awarded scholarship period.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

You have to be a national of one of the nations where the Swedish Institute scholarship is available. You are not required to be a resident of the nation at the time of application, though. If you have dual citizenship and all are eligible for the Swedish Institute scholarship, you should choose only one citizenship when applying for the scholarship. Applicants who use their dual citizenship to submit more than one application will have all applications disqualified.

You must be a citizen of one of the eligible countries, however, you do not need to reside in the country at the time of the application. If your country is not eligible then you can’t get the Swedish Institute scholarship.

About 700 English-taught masters programs are eligible for the Swedish Institute scholarship for Global Professionals, covering programs in the field of humanities, agricultural science, medicine and public health, natural science, social science, and technology.

You must have demonstrated work experience (conditions apply to certain regions). Additionally, you must have demonstrated leadership experience from your current or previous employer, or civil society engagement.

To have a successful application, you should have a clear idea of how your education will contribute to the sustainable development of your home country and region; it is up to you to motivate in your scholarship applications if your chosen programs are related to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Admissions to Swedish universities and colleges are managed by the Swedish Council for higher education through their portal university admissions. For any questions or inquiries related to your university application, tuition fees, or admittance, contact university admissions. To be eligible you also need to have paid the application fee for masters programs on time, the payment is made to the University Admissions. You must also have a work experience. However you do not have to be employed at the time of application, valid work experience includes both full-time and part-time employment, for instance as an employee, freelancer, or employer.

You must be able to prove certification for your work experience by using our template forms which can be found under the section How to apply for the Swedish Institute scholarship. Work experience in line with one or several areas of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals will be prioritized. If you are currently employed, we advise that you discuss your application with your employer. It is your responsibility to ensure that you will be granted leave of absence or be released from your work in time for the beginning of your studies.  Additionally, to your work experience, you must be able to demonstrate your leadership experience.  Leadership experience involves the experience of leading other colleagues/ organizations, mandate to influence the development strategy for the organization you work at, allocating tasks to colleagues, and have familiarity with decision-making processes. The experience may be demonstrated through, for instance, previous work experience or involvement in civil society organizations or networks.

The leadership experience has no requirements regarding a minimum number of hours. However, priority will be given to applicants with demonstrated strong and relevant leadership experience from employment.

Ukrainian applicants who reside in Sweden under the temporary protection directive are still eligible to apply for the SI scholarship.

Moldovan applicants with dual citizenship in Romania may apply for a scholarship Even though they are EU citizens and must state the citizenship that is eligible for the scholarship when applying to the Swedish Institute scholarship. By European standards Swedish Institute only accepts e-invoices.

Membership in the Swedish Institute Network for future global professionals is a platform to help you grow professionally and build a network while in Sweden. After your scholarship period has ended, you become a member of the Swedish Institute Alumni Network. As a member, you get a unique opportunity for continued networking and professional development.
